ABOUT

Who are we?

Our Past:

Under the auspices of the Division for Missions in North America, LCA, the Rev. Wilton H. Anderson was called in 1969 to develop a new congregation in Federal Way. The first worship service took place on October 5 of that year at the Olympic View Elementary School, and Sunday School began a month later. A congregational charter opened on March 1, 1970, culminating in formal organization on October 25 with 70 adults and 54 children. A name for the church was selected, a constitution adopted, and a church council elected. Ground was broken for the first unit on August 5, 1973, and dedication took place on February 17, 1974. A second unit, consisting primarily of classrooms, was built and dedicated January 28, 1979. An additional 1.3 acres adjacent to the church was purchased in 1983 for future use.

Who We are Today: Today, Christ Lutheran is a joyful and welcoming congregation. We are inspired by the radical grace of Christ, and recognize that nothing can separate us from the love of God, who desires us to live lives connected to our faith and to one another.

As we are changed and transformed by grace and love, we understand that we are to live for others. As Lutherans, we turn our hearts both upward and outward, so that we may help others experience a better life in Christ.

Christ Lutheran is an RIC church. Simply put, we welcome, include and honor all people in our community of faith. This includes an authentic welcome and acceptance of LBGTQ+ people, and people of diversity who have often been marginalized in communities of faith. You are welcome and valued here.

Christ Lutheran seeks to make contributions of help and service to our immediate community and to the greater world at large. Whether it is through the work of our quilters, bringing comfort and warmth from the thousands of handmade quilts that are delivered and sold to supply much needed warmth and funding for people in need, or our commitment to providing food to and supplies to those facing hardship—we are engaged in the world around us in the name of Jesus Christ.

Christ Lutheran is a praying congregation. We pray for each other, the community, and the world. We engage in studies to grow our faith, diving deeply in areas of learning and consideration. We gather to eat and socialize, laugh and experience the joy of our faith in fellowship. At Christ Lutheran, there is a place for you!
