Welcome to Christ Lutheran Church

A Community of Faith and Service

Anchor 1

Who we are:

Christ Lutheran Church, E.L.C.A., is a community of disciples of Christ sent to love and serve the world. We are an inclusive and welcoming congregation that strives to create a nurturing environment for spiritual growth and fellowship. Our church is a place where you can find support, guidance, and a sense of belonging as you explore your faith journey.

Christ Lutheran is a joyful and welcoming congregation. We are inspired by the radical grace of Christ, and recognize that nothing can separate us from the love of God, who desires us to live lives connected to our faith and to one another.

As we are changed and transformed by grace and love, we understand that we are to live for others. As Lutherans, we turn our hearts both upward and outward, so that we may help others experience a better life in Christ.

The Evangelical Lutheran Church has both an ancient and contemporary story in the American culture. It’s a story of a God who is both vast and deeply near, a God who has overflowing and care love for all people of the world. We believe that our faith brings authentic meaning, consolation, and strength to a growing community of people who live in modern, often unpredictable days.

Reconciling in Christ:

Here at Christ Lutheran we recognize that each of us is a unique creation made in the image of God, uniquely beloved by God.

  • We celebrate and give thanks for the amazing diversity that God has gifted us with and we welcome into our ministry and community all who are seeking God's love and grace.

  • We affirm the sacredness of all people, and are committed to racial equity.

  • We welcome people of every race, age, gender expression, culture, sexual orientation, gender identity, all abilities, and economic status.

  • We believe that every person helps us all to see, recognize, and treasure another facet of Jesus Christ, particularly when their experiences differ from ours.

Our History:

Under the auspices of the Division for Missions in North America, LCA, the Rev. Wilton H. Anderson was called in 1969 to develop a new congregation in Federal Way. The first worship service took place on October 5 of that year at the Olympic View Elementary School, and Sunday School began a month later. A congregational charter opened on March 1, 1970, culminating in formal organization on October 25 with 70 adults and 54 children. A name for the church was selected, a constitution adopted, and a church council elected. Ground was broken for the first unit on August 5, 1973, and dedication took place on February 17, 1974. A second unit, consisting primarily of classrooms, was built and dedicated January 28, 1979. An additional 1.3 acres adjacent to the church was purchased in 1983 for future use.
